Thirty teams of four took part in the fourteenth Annual Sporting Challenge on a rather damp and drizzly evening on the night before the Village Show. However the weather conditions did not dampen the effort put in by all the teams who battled to become the Champions of 2011.
Each team took part in trials set by the Tennis, Cricket, Bowls and Football clubs, with a dash of golf thrown in for good measure. Points were awarded according to each team’s position in each event – ie the winner of the bowls event scored 1 point, second place scored 2 etc and each team accumulated points according to their position in each of the five sports. The overall winning team was therefore the team with the least number of points over all five events.
This year’s winning team, EBC, won by the biggest margin in the event’s history gaining first place in football, tennis and bowls. Congratulations to the four team members Cam, Dan, Harry and Jake. All the hours of training certainly paid off.

Nigel Lawrence, our Rushcliffe Borough Councillor, presented trophies to the winners of each sport and the Richard Watkins Memorial Cup to the overall winners, who also secured their place on the Roll Of Honour.
Many thanks to the hard-working Football club who provided the BBQ and to the Cricket club for manning the beer tent.
Proceeds to this event go towards the upkeep of the Sports Pavilion.
